Back to the 2019 One Moto Show. I could not stay away from posting Ducati motorcycles. Here is a sample of three, starting with this beautifully made 1965 250cc. Next a 1970’s 900 GTS. And finally a creation on top of what seems a 2010’s Streetfighter. Good to have a holiday so I can start working on the CB500X Rally Raid and the WR250R the two bikes that will participate in the 2019 Death Valley adventure. Today I only worked on the CB500X, changing a bent sidestand. Thank you Rally Raid for sending me the new and improved sidestand! It is a pleasure working with John and Liz at RR! The oil change will be done next time... the 5 degrees Celsius got me out of the garage before I felt like doing it. This Indian Chief Racer, with RSD, also included Geico Insurance and Sturgis Buffalo Chip. What an awesome creation, I was privileged to see it in the metal at this year’s One Moto Show. RSD has other great creations there, but this one in beautiful royal blue, or lapis lazuli, a stone from where my family’s ancestors come from in the Dolomites, is precious. #rolandsands #rolandsandsdesign #indianmotorcycles #indianchief #indianchiefracer #rsdgeicochiefracer #geicoinsurance #sturgisbuffalochip #onemotoshow #2019onemotoshow #portlandAs mentioned yesterday, I think this bike here, Project 156, was fundamentally important in getting a more sports oriented Polaris machine, in this case the Indian FTR 1200, developed. I explain my simple thoughts. This one off machine was designed by Victory in partnership with Roland Sands Designs to race Pikes Peak in 2015. The bike also raced in 2016 when it finished 2nd overall, ridden by Jeromy Toye. The idea, RSD mentioned in their blog, was instrumental in developing the 1200 cc motor for a street application. This street bike became the Victory Octane. Not a hit, but not a flop either, the problem is that many riders, me included, were expecting a sports oriented machine as a result of this work and instead we got a light cruiser. Victory is history now, nothing to do with this story, I believe, but certainly the idea of developing a sports machine was not lost on the second attempt, the FTR 1200 under the Indian brand, and this time based on a flat track racing machine. And this time it was not the motor, but the FTR design what inspired the FTR 1200. And it turns out, it has created enough momentum with people asking for a street version. Hence the FTR 1200. Although some would want it to be an actual 750 street version instead of 1200... Anyway tomorrow I will talk about another bike that was on the OneMotoShow that I think was even more important to the development of a street, sport oriented bike in the Polaris family leading to the FTR 1200.
