What to do? This 1980 Honda CX500 was meant to be a project, a brat or flat track machine. I feel a bit sad to cut through it, it is in such a great state. It rides nicely and sounds great too. Only ride it around the neighborhood until I figure out what to do with it. I bought the Pikes Peak version of the 2013 Multistrada inspired by the success of the Ducati riders on the 156 curves that make the annual race to the clouds in Pikes Peak, in Colorado. On this last Sunday, at the 2019 Pikes Peak race, Carlin Dunne was set to win it again, this time on the 2020 Streetfighter V4 prototype, and perhaps even lower his overall time, when, very close to the top, he went off the road. The kind of thing one never believe is going to ever happen, especially to our heroes. But it happened and I’m sure I speak on behalf of all the community of riders when I say I’m saddened and in disbelief by the outcome of that accident. Over the next weekend I’ll take my Pikes Peak machine for a ride in homage to Carlin Dunne. The sun had passed its midday point long time ago and we had just reached Saline Valley rd. We still had to climb Lippincott Pass. If we thought this was getting late and was a beating, we had no idea what was in store for us. First we miscalculated the number of riders. We were nine but when we all grouped on the junction to Lippincott, the end of this video, we realized one of the riders was missing, and no one knew exactly the last time we had seen him. It’s getting late and we pull our inReach gadgets (we knew he had one), and sent him messages. We also notify a Jeep going that way (back to Saline Springs) of his bike, name. He finally shows up when the sun is close to set. He had taken a wrong turn back from Steele Pass, just before the saline springs and we did not realize that until two stops later. We need to change our group riding settings! Anyway, it’s late and we have to climb Lippincott!
